Share of Lancaster
There are few wounds in life as deep as those caused by the death of a loved one. When that loved one is your baby, the grief can be unimaginable and enduring. This grief may be compounded when the loss is minimized by society.
Share of Lancaster exists to bring comfort and understanding to families who have suffered the loss of a child through miscarriage, pregnancy complications, prematurity, stillbirth, SIDS and any other cause. We stand by parents in their journey of grief, offering a helping hand, a listening ear and open arms. Share is a place to bring a broken heart.
As Share of Lancaster Board Members and Staff, we willingly commit to living:
Our Vision
To foster a community of hope and healing.
Compelling Vision
To honor grieving families by providing services which encourage and support them and by acting as an advocate for them in our community.
For the past four decades, Share of Lancaster has passionately supported local families navigating the heart-wrenching loss of an infant due to miscarriage, pregnancy complications, prematurity, stillbirth, SIDS, and many other causes. We have continuously evolved, finding innovative ways to connect with our community and respond to their needs. With the generous support of our donors and the unwavering commitment of our Board members and volunteers, we are growing and adapting to serve our community better.
This year, we have embraced new initiatives, introducing educational components in our annual events while continuing our cherished traditions, such as the Walk to Remember/Wave of Light Remembrance and Parents' Day. We offer monthly informational videos and in-person support workshops, and we organized a holiday train ride on the Strasburg Railroad alongside our Angel Tree to honor our angel babies. In partnership with Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, we provide burial options for families every other month. To date, over 11,500 babies have found their rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, and we offer all these services at no cost to our community.
Power Packs Project
Power Packs is the largest school pantry/backpack program in central Pennsylvania, partnering with 11 school districts in Lancaster County, 5 school districts in Lebanon County, and 2 school districts in York County, serving a total of 117 schools.
Our goal is to end childhood hunger in the counties we serve. While we admit this is an audacious goal, and not one Power Packs can address alone, Power Packs believes it has developed an innovative approach that can reach that goal. Each week during the school year, and during summer distributions, Power Packs provides recipes for meals, the healthy ingredients for those meals and nutrition education to nearly 1,900 families, with more than 662,000 meals provided last year.
Power Packs provides not only nourishing food for children, but also directly addresses the issue of ongoing food insecurity and empowers parents to prioritize nutrition and cook healthy meals on a budget by providing families with their weekly pack containing a simple recipe and the healthy low-cost ingredients required to make it so that parents learn to cook nutritious meals, that they can replicate in the future.
The pack also includes food staples such as cereal and peanut butter for the weekend. These weekly packages also include the prices and nutritional information for each ingredient so that parents on a budget learn how to stretch their food dollars to feed their children throughout the week.
